Hi! My name is Bonnie and I'm the person behind this site. Here is a rare picture of all 5 of my children in the same shot (thanks Donna!). If you haven't guessed, I live in Central New York!
I think it's a great place to raise a family, and enjoy many things about living here such as the changing seasons (as in the fun image at the top of my homepage), the beautiful landscapes, rich history, good schools, nice people, and the many family-friendly things to do.
I enjoy working from home now, in addition to being a Mom. In my "former life" most of my work was in the
restaurant business. I love being at home and I love spending time with the kids (ok, almost all the time!) and wouldn't trade it for anything.
My summer hobby is gardening, and trying to live more "organically".
We are learning as we go - I remember the first garden we planted and how the kids loved the taste of
fresh vegetables. They asked for salad for dinner, and we were hooked. ;-)
I haven't had as much luck
with flowers or houseplants, but for now that's on my future to-do list.
My
"winter" hobby is genealogy. I call it my winter hobby because I have
more time then, and I don't enjoy the cold as much as the kids! I've
discovered it is fun and addictive. I've "met" many wonderful relatives
online and also enjoyed the history reminders and learning about how
people lived their lives during different time periods. My favorite thing is discovering old pictures I never knew existed, being able to put a face to a name I'd only seen written or stories heard.
I also enjoy learning about health, medicine, and alternative healing. Several years ago I was in a car accident which left me with fibromyalgia. At the time, I had never heard of it, and no one could tell me why I was in pain and exhausted all of the time. Like so many others, that began my "education" and journey. I now appreciate how the mind and body are connected and how our whole body works together, not just as separate parts that can be treated independently. I also have realized the huge number of people walking around in pain and with chronic issues that are interfering with enjoying life and reaching their potential. I have a strong desire to help in this area so I'm always reading and learning - eventually I will put some pages together that will be helpful, as I learn myself and from others.
I am truly a glass-half-full kind of person, and I believe things that happen for a reason, leading to doors we wouldn't have even seen otherwise.
This site started as a hobby, a way to learn something new and maybe
make a couple dollars in the process. Although I've grown it into a
business (with the help of SBI!), I still enjoy it years later. When I
decided to create this site originally, with all of my
interests, I could not just pick one. Instead I decided to include
a bit of all of them - to create a great big local resource - with
the intention of helping people in
their daily life, while supporting local small businesses as well.
